What are oral health guidelines?

Posted on 11/7/2022 by Office
What are oral health guidelines?Oral hygiene guidelines are practical and instructive advice that is intended to support and direct our patients in maintaining healthy teeth and gums and preventing new cavities. Your hygienist will train you on the right techniques for brushing and flossing during your initial oral hygiene session.

Oral Hygiene Practices

Brush your teeth at least twice a day. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. (Your gums and dental enamel can be harmed by medium or firm bristles.) Place your toothbrush at a 45-degree angle toward your gums when brushing. This helps remove bacteria and plaque from the gum line. Take care to clean the sides and backs of your teeth as well.

Dental floss is necessary to clean between teeth. Guiding the floss between two teeth requires the use of your thumbs and forefingers. You can also clean in between your teeth with dental picks and interproximal brushes if you have dexterity problems.

You should tongue-brush. Your tongue acts as a sponge for microorganisms. Remember to brush your tongue every time you brush your teeth. Use your toothbrush to accomplish this or, you may get a tongue scraper from the oral health section.

Antibacterial mouthwash aids in preventing dangerous oral microorganisms. It lessens plaque accumulation and helps wipe away food and debris. To avoid dry mouth, choose a formula free of alcohol.

Regular dental checkups and cleanings are necessary for optimal oral health. Many patients perform well with six-month checkups; you may require more frequent appointments. If you're prone to cavities, gum disease, or other oral health issues, visit our team of dentists regularly.

Gum disease and oral cancer are primarily brought on by smoking. Steer clear of tobacco products and smoking. Inquire with your doctor about available treatments if you already smoke and would wish to stop.
