Restorative Dentistry Procedures

Tooth Extraction

When Do You Need a Tooth Extraction?

Tooth extractions may be necessary throughout life: in childhood, as a teenager, and during adulthood. There's a multitude of reasons why you may need a tooth extraction, including overcrowding, tooth decay, etc.

•  Extractions are rarely performed on baby teeth because of how important the baby teeth are to the healthy long-term development of the mouth. Sometimes a dentist will remove an unhealthy tooth rather than let it remain.

•  Sometimes a child will be born with too many teeth, and we will remove some to allow the remaining teeth to grow in without overcrowding issues.

•  A routine extraction that many teenagers experience involves the wisdom teeth, as these are often unnecessary in our modern mouths.

•  As adults, tooth extractions are usually the last choice, as we do everything we can do first, in order to try to save a tooth.

•  Even when surgery is required, an extraction is a fairly short procedure.

Dental Crown

How Do Dental Crowns Work?

Dental crowns are a versatile treatment used in a lot of different procedures.

Functioning like a cap, usually stainless steel or shaded to closely resemble your natural tooth color, a dental crown goes over the top of a tooth that has been damaged or needs to be protected in some way.

When Do You Need a Dental Crown?

While crowns cannot be used for teeth with extensive and severe damage, they are perfect for mild infections, cracks, and highly sensitive teeth.

How Long Does it Take to Get a Dental Crown?

Getting a dental crown placed does not take very long, though you will need to be sedated during the procedure to reduce discomfort.

Dental Bridge

What are the Types of Dental Bridges?

Dental bridges are available in four different types: traditional, cantilever, Maryland, and implant-supported bridge.

•  A traditional fixed bridge is made of metal, ceramic, or metal-porcelain fused material. The traditional dental bridge is the most common type of bridge and consists of filler teeth connected by two crowns. A dental bridge is made to resemble your original teeth.

•  The other type of bridge is the cantilever. Dentists recommend this type for one-sided gaps, as the pontic offers support, one abutment tooth at a time.

•  Maryland bridges are another type where a framework supports the ceramic or metal fused porcelain teeth. It is applicable for the front teeth on most occasions.

•  The last type is the implant-supported bridge. These are similar to traditional bridges, except that instead of cement, there are dental implants anchored to the jaw that provide the support for the bridge.

Dental Filling

When Do You Need a Dental Filling?

•
Dental fillings are a great option when a tooth has a small amount of damage or a minor cavity.

•  By getting your child a dental filling now, you can help curb the need for operations in the future that can be more invasive and costly.

What Are Fillings Made Of?

Using a silver, composite, or ceramic dental material, one of our dentists will fill the cavity, fracture, or other damage and smooth it so there are no rough or abrasive surfaces.

When you get a dental filling, the dentist will remove all of the damaged portions of the tooth first. To do this safely, we will give you a sedative.

Inlays and Onlays

What Are Inlays and Onlays?

Inlays and onlays are types of dental fillings.

Inlays are fillings confined within the tooth's cusp tips and are externally bonded into the tooth's cavity. They can be made of gold, porcelain, or composite material.

Inlays are designed to fill reasonably damaged back molars, and therefore are considerably stronger than other fillings because they can withstand forces exerted by the back teeth.

Onlays are similar to inlays; however, they are designed for larger cavities and extend over the toth's cusp tips - Onlays are made up of the same materials as inlays. Onlays increase the strength of the toth.

Dental Implants

Dental Implant Restoration

Dental implants have become a very popular way of replacing missing teeth. While similar to dentures in that they are artificial and are often made from similar materials, there are a number of benefits implants have that dentures do not.

The team here at Reich Dental Center – Roswell has worked with many patients to place dental implants, including single implants, bridges, and even full sets of replacement teeth.

If you're thinking about implants, know that they provide many benefits, one of which includes that with proper oral hygiene, your implants could last you for the rest of your life.

Today, advances in implant technology and design significantly reduce the percentage of rejection. With professional skill and up-to-date technology, we minimize the risk of implant failure.

You must receive an evaluation with us before scheduling any procedure. It is important to first find out if you are a candidate for dental implants. Patients that do not have enough bone density in their jaw or who have certain health conditions may not (at least initially) be a viable candidate to receive dental implants.

Frenectomies

Inside the mouth there are ridges of soft tissue that prevent over-extension. One of these ridges is referred to as a frenulum, or frenum. There is a frenulum connecting the tongue to the base of the mouth, and two more connect the top and bottom lips to the gums.

Frenula do not always form properly, and can make it difficult to talk or may simply be uncomfortable. When this happens, we perform an operation called a frenectomy where we modify the frenulum to allow for proper function and range of motion.

This is usually done on very young children, especially babies, as they recover faster than adults. Frenectomies are fast, and a sedative will ensure that your child feels little to nothing.
